Description
This bayonet had been approved in May 1859, it’s predecessor in April 1859. The first type had wooden grips with six grooves, this one has leather knurled grips. The blade is very heavy, scabbard made of leather. Some few scabbards were equiped with external locking mechanism, which fitted the opening in hilt’s basket. The rest had internal flat spring in scabbard throat. Almost all of the blades were manufactured by various German contractors and bayonets assembled in Birmingham and Liege. Total numer of this bayonets produced was about 80 000.
This one has rare manufacturers mark – Klonne. According to Skennerton Klonne manufactured one 1000 pieces from the contract.
