Mauser M 1888. s# H 52193 on guillon. Excellent T shaped blade with Mre. de’Armes de St.- Etienne Aout 1875 on blade spine and two French inspection markings on ricasso.

Excellent modified hilt with brass pommel and wooden grips. Three more ?French inspection markings on quillon. Excellent crossguard with quillon and modified muzzle ring MRD 17,5/23 mm. Excellent blued metal scabbard with no dents.

German WWI modification of a French M 1874 Gras bayonet to fit the Mauser M 1888 commisions rifle by bending the blade slightly downwards from about 100 mm. away from the cross guard, enlarging the muzzle ring by 2 mm, grinding away the upperpart of the brass pommel so reducing the depth of the slot, reducing the lenght of the spring to 57 mm and replacing the locking tooth. Extending the press stud.

This is the most complex modification on a Gras bayonet the Germans did in WWI.

A very interesting and extremely rare bayonet!
