Description
Very uncommon first series Chassepot manufactured in October 1866. It is easily recognized at first glance by the location of the pin on second rib of the handle. Manufactured by DE CHATTELEREAULT. There is a number “3” in the locking rail and on the crossguard, which probably corespond to weapon number – very low!
Number R 2795 is probably from 1870 Franco-Prussian war. Finally it was caputered by Germans, and here is the number 115L11.2.245. The scabbard is of German type, also with German numbers, not corresponding to one on the crossguard.
Great traveller through history, if it only could speak….
