Description
British yatagan bayonet M1853 for artillery carabine – 2nd pattern. Beautiful condition with very rare original steel scabbard. The bayonet and scabbard have correct equal weapon numbers. The scabbard has one of the kind shape with almost rectangular back. It repaced the 1st pattern in 1855 and around 25000 pieces had been manufactured till 1858 when new model appeared. Late or repaired bayonets? could be sheeted with leather scabbards. Probably the bayonet was fitted with particular rifle and was not interchangabe.
On last few pictures I compare it’s hilt with M1853 1st pattern with brass grip.
