Description

What you have is the Swiss model 1899 for infantry officer.
As far as I understand the M1867 and M1899 were models issued to both infantry and cavalry officers, explaining the lack of distinction there may be when trying to figure out which one was carried by what branch.

There are some very minor differences between mounted and dismounted officers 1899 swords: on a cavalry officer’s the hand guard is wider and the tassels/portepees differ in color between both types.

The number 1909 is indeed the year of service and the Roman numeral II means the size of blade (Federal ordnance). The sizes were I=760mm, II=810mm, III=860mm.
