Italy
Italy has been divided for most of 19th century. It united between 1858-1870 thorough a series of wars and domestic conflicts. Distinctive bayonets before this date are:
Piedmont M1844 bayonet for Short Artillery Carabine
and
yatagan blade probably from Neapol, dated 1857 on ricasso.
After reunion of Italy, which was finally done after fall of Rome in 1870, the country produced a great amount of blades. First of all it was M1870 and it’s variations (long spring, short sprint, type U without the nut on the pommel, brass hilt).
This bayonet was later shortened and used thorough WWI, Spanish Civil War, WWII and in Balkanian countries.
Since 1891 another bayonet produced in huge quantities appeared – Mannlicher-Carcano M1891.
Special variant of the later is Mannlicher-Carcano 1891 Truppe Spaciale with unique catch. These were later used also in Yugoslavia.
Another distinctive example of Italian bayonet was small Carcano M38. It appeared with fixed blade and with folding one – folding to position ideal for potato peeling;) The folding type had two variants with different folding button. Very similar and extremly rare was bayonet for Beretta MP38A differing in detail, mailny lack of barrel ring.
